Food Fashion :: Treat Too Sweet

If you have been engaged in lifestyle media as of late you might have noticed the hottest indulgence right now is the cupcake.  Its social stock has been increasing for a few years now - and it will continue to rise {pun entirely intended}.

The cupcake found its humble beginnings at children’s birthday parties and bake sales and hit main stream popularity a few years ago due to a little show called Sex and the City.  Since Carrie made such a fuss - so has the rest of the world.  Cupcake shops have opened up in every major city, people have dedicated blogs to the tiny delights and we see them at all events, weddings, bridal showers, Christmas parties, everywhere, and from casual chic to fancy schmancy.

The cupcake has also inspired other miniatures of our favourite desserts, tiny brownie concoctions, and stacks of delectable cookies seen here and created by Elaine’s Cake Boutique in Toronto.  One success of the small sweet treat is that they are portion controlled and we don’t have to suffer too much guilt as we devour  just one…

Hopefully this will inspire you to think of something unique and petite to add to your soiree!

Haute Tip :: A Kiss is Not Just a Kiss

The ceremonial kiss - a lot of couples swoop in, kiss hard and fast, giggle a bit and face the crowd.  How many times have we seen this?  It is sweet and endearing and true, but, it is so fleeting that the couple will barely remember their first kiss as man and wife and it is almost certain that the moment wasn’t captured on film and if it is, it won’t be as impressive as it could be.

When your ceremony officiant says, “you may now kiss the bride”, take the time to enjoy the moment.  Step toward each other, gaze into each others eyes, share a sweet smile, and then kiss.  Kiss nicely.  Kiss sweetly.  Kiss romantically.  Kiss long enough to need to refresh your lipstick.

This should guarantee you a wonderful memory and undoubtedly, a better photo.

The Bachelorette

Have you been watching The Bachelorette?  I have been entirely addicted to the series ever since Jillian Harris was announced as one of the single ladies wooing Jason last season.  She’s originally from Alberta {where I live!} and, well, as soon as it was announced that a local girl was going to be on TV, everyone tuned in.  Since she was announced as this season’s Bachelorette she has been dubbed as “Canada’s Sweetheart” and doing us proud.

Last week’s show was more than just entertaining for me {although, it was really entertaining!}; it was thrilling and delightful to watch the Rocky Mountaineer train make its way through the Canadian Rocky Mountains.  There is a certain amount of pride in seeing the grandeur of your home displayed with such beauty on a popular television show.  Those places they stopped are in my backyard and make wonderful venues for weddings!

Emerald Lake Lodge is a remote and quaint resort set delicately on the shore of the lake in the BC wilderness.  The view in every direction is mountains and breath-taking scenery.  The lodge is open year round and is definitely an escape into serenity.  Emerald Lake Lodge would be the perfect setting for your wedding in the mountains, winter or summer.

The Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise is literally like a castle in the wilderness, it was built on the eastern shore of Lake Louise which is fed by palatial glaciers and is surrounded by mountains.  It is pristine wilderness and there are plenty of activities to imbibe in including hiking, mountain biking, canoeing and world class skiing.  The hotel is first in its class when it comes to service and style.  Should you have your wedding here you will feel like nothing less than royalty.  I love the Chateau and its staff; I posted about my recent stay here.

The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel has to be one of my favorite places in the world, probably because it is the venue I have visited the most and because it is the crown of the Banff town site.  Banff is a bustling tourist town with utmost charm and incomparable beauty.  The Banff Springs Hotel is an amazing place to have a wedding, the rooms, the terraces, the lawns you have to choose from in which to have your ceremony and reception are seemingly endless.

You will absolutely love having your wedding in any of these locations, you will be thrilled at every turn and your guests will be impressed beyond words.

Bouquets :: Peonies

Peonies are by far one of my favorite flowers.  They are so buxom and vivid, soft and flirtatious.  They remind me of when I was a little girl, playing in my Mother’s garden and I suppose I’m also fond of the peony because I can actually grow them in my own garden.

Of course, the peony is a favorite in wedding bouquets too, here’s why…

Bright Color Trend

If you’ve ventured out shopping in the last little while or flipped through some of the design and fashion magazines you’ll have noticed that bright colors are definitely hot, hot, hot!  It usually takes a while for fashion trends to translate into wedding decor so that would mean we would see the bright colors for next year, so those brides planning 2010 weddings…

Let’s have a little fun and translate that into a wedding shall we? ::
